Kathmandu: Lord Buddha Educational Academy, jointly owned by medical college entrepreneur Khuma Prasad Aryal and others, recorded a transaction of Rs 1.816 billion in 2024—marking a 29 percent increase in business compared to the previous year.
The company attributed this growth primarily to improved performance in its medical college and hospital services. In 2023, its total business stood at Rs 1.403 billion, while in 2022 it was Rs 1.526 billion.
According to company data, 52 percent of its 2024 revenue came from hospital services, 26 percent from its medical college, and 22 percent from hostels, pharmacies, and other support services. Founded in 1996 by a group of doctors, the company currently operates a 700-bed multi-specialty teaching hospital in Kohalpur, along with medical and nursing colleges.
Lord Buddha Educational Academy runs the Nepal Medical College and Nepal Nursing Campus and is affiliated with Kathmandu University. It launched its MBBS programme in 1997 and began its nursing programme in 2000.
The company employs 123 doctors, 343 nurses, and 590 administrative and support staff.
In addition to its Kohalpur facility, the company had also been operating a 300-bed hospital in Nepalgunj. However, the Nepalgunj property was sold to its subsidiary, Sanjeevani College of Medical Science Pvt. Ltd., for Rs 882 million.
With the proceeds from the sale, the company now plans to expand into critical care services, particularly targeting life-threatening diseases such as cancer. It has announced an investment of Rs 1.358 billion to construct a new hospital block focused on cancer and other fatal conditions.
To support its financial commitments, the company has secured a credit rating of Rs 1 billion—Rs 950 million for long-term loans and Rs 50 million for short-term loans.
The company is governed by a board of eight directors. Khuma Prasad Aryal serves as the Chairman, while Suresh Kumar Kanodia is the Managing Director.
