Kathmandu: Volkswagen Nepal announced the official launch of two globally acclaimed models—the Volkswagen Virtus and the Volkswagen Taigun GT Plus 1.5 TSI—at the NAIMA Auto Show 2025, which was held on Wednesday at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
These iconic vehicles marked a new era in the Nepali automotive landscape, reinforcing Volkswagen’s legacy of precision German engineering, unmatched safety standards, and best-in-class performance.
The new Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun 1.5L GT TSI were unveiled by His Excellency Mr. Udo Volz from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Nepal, who attended the event as the Guest of Honor.
Following the overwhelming success of the 1.0 TSI engine, which had delighted drivers with its outstanding mileage of up to 20 km/l, Volkswagen introduced its most powerful offering yet in the segment—the 1.5L TSI EVO engine, which delivered an exhilarating 150 PS of power. The GT Plus 1.5 TSI variants in both the Virtus and Taigun offered not only thrilling acceleration but also Active Cylinder Deactivation technology for intelligent fuel efficiency.
More than just vehicles, the Virtus and Taigun GT Plus 1.5 TSI stood as status symbols—designed for those who demanded performance, distinction, and the peace of mind that only 5-star Global NCAP-rated safety could provide.

Volkswagen Virtus – The bold new face of German precision
With a commanding 180mm ground clearance, the Virtus was a premium mid-size sedan built on the acclaimed MQB A0 IN platform. Its bold, sophisticated styling and power-packed GT Plus 1.5 TSI variant redefined what a sedan could offer in Nepal.
Designed for driving enthusiasts who refused to compromise on either power or efficiency, the Virtus stood out with its sleek design, robust chassis, and refined performance. It was a modern expression of prestige that delivered pure driving pleasure—whether on city roads or cross-country highways.
Tailored for Nepal’s diverse terrain, the Volkswagen Taigun GT Plus 1.5 TSI combined urban agility with rugged confidence. Its muscular design, 188mm ground clearance, and 7-speed DSG transmission provided dynamic control and comfort across every journey—from winding hills to bustling city streets.
Both the Virtus and Taigun featured Volkswagen’s signature commitment to safety without compromise—with up to six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Hold Control, and multi-collision braking systems. The result was European-standard protection that led the segment in real-world safety.

Engineering built for the region
Representing the manufacturer as the special guest at the event, Mr. Shelji Joseph stated,
“Given that both models have been built with consideration for India’s road infrastructure and fuel standards, we are confident in their performance and reliability on Nepal’s roads. In addition, the cost of spare parts has been kept at par with Indian vehicles, which will result in lower maintenance costs for our valued customers.”
An experience that redefines ownership
“Volkswagen is back, and stronger than ever,” said Bibek Bijukchhe, CEO of Volkswagen Nepal. “With the launch of the Virtus and Taigun GT Plus 1.5 TSI, we are bringing Nepal a product that not only delivers top-of-the-line performance and unmatched safety, but also embodies the pride of owning true German engineering. These are vehicles designed for those who aspire to drive not just a car, but a symbol of excellence.”
Bookings open now
Bookings for both models are now open at all Volkswagen dealerships across Nepal. Test drives will begin during the NAIMA Auto Show starting 6 August 2025, with exclusive gifts for every participant.
