NRB eases foreign exchange rules for airlines

Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has provided additional foreign exchange facilities to airline companies by amending Integrated Circular 2024 on Thursday.

The central bank said the move aims to make currency exchange procedures easier for the aviation sector.

Under the revised provision, the Airline Operators Association of Nepal will now receive an annual foreign exchange facility of up to US$ 100,000. Previously, this limit was applied on a per-transaction basis.

According to NRB, airline service operators can obtain foreign currency exchange from commercial banks for service imports of up to US$ 100,000 — or an equivalent amount in other convertible currencies.

For transactions involving India, the equivalent amount in Indian Rupees or other convertible currencies will apply. The facility will be provided upon submission of the required documents as specified by the central bank.
