Lalitpur: Nepal’s leading payment system operator (PSO), Fonepay, has announced that it has achieved the globally recognized Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) v4.0.1 Level 1 certification — the highest standard for payment card data security.
This milestone reflects Fonepay’s strong commitment to ensuring the highest level of security for all transactions processed through its network, further strengthening trust among users, partner banks and financial institutions, and regulatory authorities.
PCI DSS Level 1 is the top-tier international accreditation for payment card data protection, requiring robust technical infrastructure, stringent policies, and comprehensive monitoring systems.
Fonepay said the certification demonstrates its investment and dedication to safeguarding cardholder data and enhancing its security infrastructure.
“Security is not a one-time achievement; it’s a continuous commitment,” said Fonepay Chief Operating Officer Parash Kunwar. “Achieving PCI DSS Level 1 certification is a recognition of our collective effort to prioritize data security while building a strong payment ecosystem. It will further reinforce the trust of our partner banks, financial institutions, e-wallets, and all our customers in the security of the Fonepay payment network.”
The certification was awarded following an independent and thorough assessment by a PCI DSS Qualified Security Assessor (QSA). The evaluation covered 12 key security domains, including data protection, secure network architecture, access control, risk management, and continuous monitoring.
