Kathmandu: The Export and Import Bank of China (CEXIM) has formally appointed an agent in Nepal to strengthen its operations in the country.
The agreement was signed in Sichuan, where CEXIM partnered with Sichuan International Group (SGIC) to carry out business activities in Nepal.
Under this arrangement, SGIC will act as CEXIM’s representative in Nepal, facilitating financial and technical cooperation, project financing, and investment opportunities. The partnership also aims to support Nepal’s infrastructure development, power generation, and industrial projects through accessible loans and financial packages.
During the signing event, CEXIM’s Sichuan Branch representative Wu Yanhui and SGIC officials Chen Shengrong and Liao Bin jointly endorsed the agreement. The initiative is expected to attract both government and private-sector investments, with emphasis on long-term cooperation in areas such as hydropower, transportation, and manufacturing.
Officials highlighted that the move would not only help Nepal secure essential development financing but also expand CEXIM’s global footprint. Analysts note that the collaboration could open new avenues for Nepal to strengthen its economic ties with China, particularly in strategic sectors where financial resources are crucial.
The partnership reflects China’s growing role in Nepal’s economic development, with CEXIM positioning itself as a key financial partner for the country’s future projects.
