Floods drag Nepal Mediciti Hospital into loss despite strong turnover

Kathmandu: The business of Nepal Mediciti Hospital, backed by Non-Resident Nepali entrepreneur Upendra Mahato, declined in the last fiscal year.

The hospital, operated by Ashwin Medical College & Hospital Pvt Ltd, reported lower turnover in 2025 compared to 2024.

In 2024, the hospital had posted revenues of Rs 2.744 billion. However, in 2025, its business fell by around Rs 200 million, settling at Rs 2.555 billion. In comparison, revenues had reached Rs 2.826 billion in 2023 and Rs 2.784 billion in 2022.

The company began operations in 2017 under the Nepal Mediciti Hospital brand. It is Nepal’s first hospital accredited by Hospital & Healthcare Providers International.

Currently, the hospital provides specialized healthcare services with a capacity of 247 beds.

Run under the Mahato Group of Industries, the hospital has secured ratings worth Rs 4.941 billion for both long-term and short-term borrowings.

Despite generating turnover of more than Rs 2.5 billion in 2025, the hospital failed to post a profit. It had accumulated losses in its initial years, which further deepened after the September 2024 floods. The disaster left the hospital with a net loss of Rs 324 million last fiscal year.

The floods also disrupted service delivery, leading to a decline in patient numbers and reduced business, the hospital said. To mitigate future risks, the company stated it has constructed a four-foot-high protective wall around the premises.
