Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank has invited bids for the printing of 430 million banknotes of Rs 1,000 denomination.
According to the call for tender, only six companies that have already met the central bank’s prequalification requirements will be allowed to participate in the competition.
The central bank announced that the tender has been issued for the design, printing, supply, and distribution of Rs 1,000 notes. Only the six companies that were prequalified in February 2025 will be eligible to take part, as stated in the notice.
According to Nepal Rastra Bank, participating companies may submit their bids with both a financial proposal and a technical proposal in sealed form.
To purchase the bidding documents, interested companies must pay Rs 20,000, or the equivalent of US$ 144, EUR 123, or GBP 107. The notice specifies that bids must be submitted by 10 October 2025, and they will be opened on the same day. The bids will remain valid for 120 days, and a security deposit of Rs 640 million is required.
The six companies prequalified to print Nepali banknotes are China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation (China), De La Rue International Limited (United Kingdom), Giesecke+Devrient Currency Technology (Germany), Joint Stock Company Goznak (Russia), Oberthur Fiduciaire (France), and Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych / Polish Security Printing Works (Poland).
Among these, one company will be selected to undertake the contract under Nepal Rastra Bank’s tender call.
