Transport Federation urges vehicle owners not to install embossed number plates

Kathmandu: Federation of Nepali National Transport Entrepreneurs has called on vehicle owners not to install embossed number plates.

In a statement issued on Monday, the federation’s General Secretary, Bharat Nepal, said that the government was trying to impose an unnecessary financial burden on citizens and transport entrepreneurs by importing foreign technology without first developing the necessary infrastructure.

The federation stated: “Since the government is attempting to enforce the installation of embossed number plates without addressing and amending impractical provisions raised during discussions with stakeholders, the public, tourism, transport, and private sectors cannot accept this arrangement.”

According to the federation, the introduction of embossed number plates could allow personal details of Nepali citizens to fall under the control of foreign companies, raising concerns about potential threats to national security.

The federation also warned that if the government attempts to forcibly implement the embossed number plate system, it would launch protests.

Earlier, on August 19, the Department of Transport Management under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport had announced that embossed number plates would be made mandatory for all vehicles starting from September 17.
