Kathmandu: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, held a meeting with Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, President of Qatar Chamber, in Qatar.
During the meeting, discussions were held on strengthening economic and business relations between Nepal and Qatar, as well as on mutual cooperation. On the occasion, it was agreed that the next meeting of the Nepal–Qatar Joint Business Council (JBC) will soon be organized in Kathmandu, FNCCI President Dhakal informed.
He highlighted that the Nepal–Qatar JBC has become an important mechanism for promoting trade and investment between the two countries, stressing the need to finalize the membership list at the earliest to make it more effective.
Appreciating Qatar’s support in establishing the JBC, Dhakal emphasized that Nepal offers abundant investment opportunities and urged Qatari investors to invest in Nepal.
“There are many areas for investment in Nepal. I call upon Qatari investors to invest in hydropower, solar energy, information technology, fintech, and agro-based industries,” he said.
Dhakal also underlined FNCCI’s ongoing drive for digital transformation, stating that cooperation with Qatar Chamber in this area would be crucial. He proposed knowledge sharing on AI-based business facilitation tools, blockchain-based trade documentation systems, and digital platforms for business matchmaking and investment promotion.
“Your support, drawing on Qatar’s experience in adopting advanced digital technologies, will provide invaluable assistance in making FNCCI a modern, tech-friendly institution,” he said.
On the occasion, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani said that the JBC mechanism would be finalized and made more effective. He also committed to taking initiatives to strengthen economic and business relations with Nepal and to continue such meetings and dialogues, Dhakal shared.
Meanwhile, Dhakal invited Qatar Chamber and the Qatari business community to participate in the Nepal International Economic Summit (NIES) to be held in February 2026 in Kathmandu. He informed that a special “Qatar-focused investment session” would be organized at the summit with the aim of further strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
“Through investment, innovation, and cooperation, the Nepal–Qatar partnership can reach new heights. There is huge potential to increase the market access of Nepali agricultural products such as tea, coffee, cardamom, herbs, and processed foods in Qatar,” Dhakal said.
He proposed collaboration in certification, standardization, and joint branding initiatives to meet international standards for these products. The meeting was also attended by Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani along with senior officials of Qatar Chamber and Qatari businesspersons.
