Government begins tracking foreign nationals entering Nepal

Kathmandu: The government has now started tracking foreign nationals entering Nepal.

The Department of Immigration has stated that this system has been developed with the aim of supporting security, information sharing, prevention of possible crimes, and the promotion of tourism in Nepal.

According to the department, implementation of the system will enable the maintenance of organized records of the stay, activities, and departure of foreign nationals entering Nepal. Immigration believes that this will make search, rescue, and ensuring security easier in case of emergencies.

In addition, it is expected that information exchange between security agencies, tourism entrepreneurs, and other bodies concerned will become more effective, thereby contributing to the safe and well-managed development of the tourism sector.

The department has announced that in the first phase, starting from September 17, the system will be made mandatory in star hotels within the Kathmandu Valley. In the second phase, from November 17, it will be implemented in all star hotels, airlines, tours and travel companies, and money exchangers. After that, it will gradually be enforced in all types of hotels, guest houses, and other public and private institutions providing services.

The Department of Immigration has requested all public institutions and private companies providing services to foreign nationals to mandatorily enroll in the system.
