Kathmandu: The official email system of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has been hacked, with access lost since last Saturday and recovery efforts still ongoing, according to board sources.
The hack has affected all official email IDs used by SEBON employees, including the primary domain @sebon.gov.np, leaving the regulator without control of its core communication platform for five days.
Board spokesperson Niranjaya Ghimire confirmed that the system is experiencing technical issues and said efforts are underway to resolve the problem. Officials noted that SEBON is working with Microsoft to recover the compromised accounts.
Concerns have been raised that sensitive and confidential information may have been stolen during the breach.
