Police fire rubber bullets as Gen Z protesters storm parliament in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: Police opened fire with rubber bullets in New Baneshwor on Monday as protests led by Nepal’s Gen Z movement turned increasingly violent.

The security forces resorted to the measure after tear gas and baton charges failed to bring the escalating situation under control.

Protesters managed to breach the Federal Parliament compound, breaking through the main gate and entering the premises.

The crowd’s aggressive push prompted police to intensify their response, first deploying tear gas and batons before escalating to rubber bullets when tensions spiraled further.

Amid the chaos, the Kathmandu District Administration Office announced the imposition of a curfew in the Baneshwor area, prohibiting public movement and gatherings until order is restored.
