Gen Z Movement Nepal denounces infiltration, reaffirms peaceful protest

Kathmandu: The Gen Z Movement Nepal has issued a statement distancing itself from the violence that erupted during Monday’s demonstrations in the capital, claiming that its peaceful protest was disrupted by infiltrators.

In a press release, the youth-led movement said its original aim was to advocate for justice, accountability, and good governance through nonviolent means.

“Today our movement took a very tragic turn. Our peaceful voice, raised for justice, accountability, and good governance, was overshadowed by acts of vandalism and attempts to forcefully enter the Parliament building. But let us be clear this was never our core intention,” the statement read.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to a disciplined and lawful struggle, emphasizing that its movement was not directed against institutions or infrastructure but against corruption, misuse of public funds, and betrayal of public trust.

“The voice of Gen Z remains peaceful, disciplined, and rooted in the law. Our protest is against corruption, the misuse of people’s money, and the betrayal of trust. To all citizens, the Nepal Police, and the international community, our message is clear: do not mistake the actions of a few individuals as the voice of an entire generation. Our voice cannot be fragmented, nor can it be hijacked. We stand for peace, for justice, and for the future,” the statement declared.

The announcement comes amid escalating unrest in Kathmandu, where security forces imposed curfews and used force against demonstrators after some protesters broke through barricades at the Parliament compound. Hospitals have since confirmed multiple deaths and dozens of injuries.
