Pokhara: At least 30 people were injured on Monday in the western city of Pokhara during nationwide demonstrations led by the Gen Z Movement, which has been protesting against government corruption and the recent ban on social media.
Authorities confirmed that five of the injured were struck by police gunfire as security forces attempted to disperse protesters. The wounded have been taken to various hospitals across the city for treatment.
The protests in Pokhara mirrored those in Kathmandu, where demonstrators clashed with police near the federal parliament building, leaving multiple dead and dozens more wounded.
Despite curfews and restrictions, the Gen Z Movement has continued to mobilize against what it calls “systemic corruption and suppression of free expression,” with the government’s shutdown of Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, and other platforms serving as a major flashpoint.
