Curfew imposed in Bhairahawa and Butwal as Gen Z protests escalate

Rupandehi: Authorities in Rupandehi District have imposed curfews in the major cities of Bhairahawa and Butwal after anti-government Gen Z protests intensified.

The District Administration Office announced the prohibitory orders on Monday, citing growing unrest. In Butwal, protesters reportedly surrounded several offices, including that of the ruling CPN-UML party.

According to the order, the curfew in Butwal extends from the Petrol Pump-Dhago Factory Bridge in the east to Belwa Chowk in the west, Chidiya Khola in the north, and Mangalapur in the south.

In Bhairahawa, restrictions cover the area from Rohini Khola Bridge in the east to Bethari Bridge in the west, Buddha Chowk in the north, and Meudihwa in the south. Additionally, a 100-meter buffer zone has been enforced along both sides of the Butwal-Belahiya road section.

The curfews come as nationwide protests by the so-called “Gen Z Movement” against corruption and the government’s social media blackout continue to spread beyond Kathmandu.
