Kathmandu: The Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs on Tuesday has announced an indefinite nationwide strike of all public and freight transportation services.
This decision follows the tragic death of 19 students during a peaceful protest organized by the ‘Gen Z’ group on September 8, due to government repression.
The Federation expressed deep sorrow over the fatalities and the imposition of curfews across the country, which have severely disrupted daily life. Until there is a guarantee of peace and security, the Federation has decided not to operate any transport services.
Offering heartfelt condolences to the deceased and wishing speedy recovery for the injured, the Federation has urged the government to arrange proper medical treatment for those affected.
It has also appealed to all member unions, committees, companies, and private transport operators to provide full assistance for the injured’s treatment.
The Federation highlighted that due to the tragic events, public life throughout the Kathmandu Valley and the rest of the country has been deeply affected, with curfew orders issued in various locations. This situation has made it difficult to operate public and freight transport vehicles.
Therefore, until the government ensures adequate peace and security, the Federation has formally requested all its members to suspend operations of passenger and freight transport vehicles nationwide.
