Health Minister Pradeep Paudel resigns amid intensifying Gen Z protests

Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel has resigned from his post as nationwide protests led by the Gen Z escalate.

The Nepali Congress leader stepped down on Tuesday, citing moral responsibility.

In his resignation letter, Paudel wrote: “What we witnessed on the streets across Kathmandu and the nation on September 8 was not appropriate for a democracy. The outpouring of anger from the Gen Z generation on the streets and social media is a natural and legitimate warning against corruption and misgovernance. They were only asking questions. Our sons and daughters were demanding a future, not confrontation. They were seeking reform in the state system, not anarchy.”

He further explained that he faced a moral dilemma between arranging medical treatment for the injured and remaining a part of the very state apparatus responsible for the crisis.

“Standing on the side of democratic values and citizens’ rights, I hereby resign from the post of Minister for Health and Population,” Paudel declared.
