Kathmandu: The Nepal Army announced on Wednesday that it had arrested 27 individuals involved in looting and anarchic activities from Kathmandu and other locations between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
In a security update issued at 10:45 am Wednesday, the Army’s Directorate of Public Relations said that the suspects had taken undue advantage of the prevailing unrest to engage in destructive, anarchic, and unruly activities — including looting, arson, and attacks aimed at causing harm to lives and property.
The Army further reported that cash amounting to Rs 3.37 million (approximately US$ 250,000) was recovered from individuals involved in looting in Kathmandu’s Gaushala–Chabahil–Boudha area.
Additionally, security personnel confiscated 31 different types of weapons, along with magazines and rounds of ammunition — 23 from various locations in Kathmandu and eight from Pokhara.
The Army also stated that 23 injured Nepal Police personnel and three civilians are receiving treatment at military hospitals. Meanwhile, three fire engines have been deployed to contain blazes started during the unrest.
