4 arrested in looting of Bhatbhateni Supermarket as security forces intensify crackdown


Kathmandu: Police have arrested four individuals involved in the looting of Bhatbhateni Supermarket in Maharajgunj, officials confirmed Wednesday.

The arrests were made between 10 am and 1 pm, after the Nepal Army and other security agencies were deployed nationwide to curb violence and theft during the unrest.

In a separate incident, security personnel recovered Rs 232,500 in cash and US$ 2,500 (together amounting to about Rs 580,000) from suspects who fled upon spotting security forces in the Dilli Bazaar–Narayanthan area.

Authorities also reported the recovery of one more looted firearm, bringing the total number of seized weapons to 32.

Meanwhile, the Army said 26 inmates who had escaped from Dadeldhura District Prison have been recaptured. In Kathmandu, an attempted jailbreak at the central Dilli Bazaar prison was foiled in time.
