Kathmandu: Tribhuvan International Airport has been closed indefinitely, according to an official statement issued Wednesday by the airport office under the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
The notice said that due to the ongoing prohibitory orders, curfew in the Kathmandu Valley, widespread unrest, and smoke observed along the flight paths near the airport, operations had been suspended until further notice, citing serious risks to flight safety.
Authorities have requested passengers not to come to the airport during the closure. Travellers have been advised to contact their respective airlines only after an official notice of reopening is issued.
The CAAN statement reiterated: “Given the prohibitory orders, curfew, and the abnormal situation in the Kathmandu Valley, along with smoke observed around the approach and departure routes of Tribhuvan International Airport, flight safety has been deemed at serious risk. Therefore, the airport will remain closed until further notice.”
The announcement added that passengers should refrain from arriving at the airport during the closure period and only make travel arrangements once the facility is officially reopened and confirmed by their airlines.
