Gen Z protests death toll rises to 34, over 1,300 injured amid escalating clashes

Kathmandu: During the ongoing Gen Z protests in Nepal, the death toll has reached 34, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Health.

Across various hospitals nationwide, 1,368 individuals have been injured, with 321 currently undergoing treatment and 949 discharged.

The protests, which challenge social media bans and government corruption, witnessed severe police crackdowns on demonstrators.

The ministry reported deaths in multiple hospitals: 6 at Civil Hospital in Kathmandu, 8 at the National Trauma Center, 5 at Bheri Hospital, 3 at Everest Hospital, 3 at Frontline Hospital, 2 each at KMC Hospital and BP Koirala Health Sciences, and one each at Tribhuvan Teaching Hospital, Bayodha Hospital, Ilam Hospital, and BNC Hospital.

The clashes escalated after protesters broke police barricades in front of the Parliament building in New Baneshwar, leading to police firing indiscriminately, which caused injuries and fatalities both on the spot and during hospital treatment.

The violent confrontations have significantly impacted the capital and other regions, with protesters and police engaged in continuous conflict, sparking a nationwide outcry over human rights and police brutality.
