PM Sushila Karki expresses concern over attacks on key state institutions, vows 6-month transitional role

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has voiced concern over attacks targeting vital state institutions.

Addressing senior government officials on Sunday after assuming office, Karki said she was shocked by incidents of arson at Singha Durbar, police stations, and other government structures. She remarked that it was shameful to call those involved “Nepali.”

“Police posts were set on fire, court files were destroyed, and even Singha Durbar was damaged. I am deeply surprised by why such buildings and documents were burned. If these acts were carried out by Nepalis, it makes me ashamed to call them Nepali. Such an incident has happened in this country for the first time,” she said.

Karki suggested the events might have been part of a conspiracy and assured that an investigation would be launched against those involved.

“I did not become prime minister out of personal desire. I was compelled to take this responsibility because the people’s voice rose from the streets. This post is not for enjoying power,” she stated.

She further announced that she intends to remain prime minister only for six months, after which she will hand over authority to a newly elected parliament and government.

The prime minister appealed for cooperation from all sides, including security agencies, stressing that her goals could not be achieved without collective effort.
