FNCCI urges government to ensure security for business environment

Kathmandu: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged the government to guarantee security to create an environment where businesses can operate with dignity and confidence.

A delegation led by FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal made the request during a meeting with Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal at the Home Ministry on Thursday. Dhakal suggested that the government immediately take concrete steps to ensure peace and security.

He expressed concern that the private sector has not been able to feel secure across districts and urged the government to prioritize safety. Dhakal also said that some entrepreneurs are willing to help rebuild damaged police structures and requested that Chief District Officers be informed to coordinate such efforts through local chambers of commerce.

The delegation further urged Minister Aryal to take action against those involved in attacks, vandalism, and arson targeting private property during the recent unrest. Dhakal stressed that the government must send a positive message to ensure the private sector, which contributes significantly to national revenue and employment, can operate in a dignified environment.

Currently, the private sector contributes 81 percent to Nepal’s economy and provides 86 percent of employment.

During the meeting, Home Minister Aryal assured that the government is sensitive to the peace and security concerns of citizens and businesses.

FNCCI Vice Presidents Hemraj Dhakal and Jyotsna Shrestha, along with Treasurer Bharat Raj Acharya, highlighted that hundreds of private enterprises had been affected, suffering huge financial losses due to vandalism and arson during the movement. They urged the minister to guarantee security, warning that failure to punish the perpetrators would foster a culture of impunity.

The FNCCI is in the process of collecting detailed data on the damages caused during the incidents.
