Minister Ghising inspects progress of Suryabinayak–Dhulikhel road expansion

Kathmandu: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, conducted a field inspection of the Suryabinayak–Dhulikhel (Dhulikhel Khawa) road construction project.

He held detailed discussions with the secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the director general of the Department of Roads, project heads, and contractors.

During the inspection, Minister Ghising directed officials to immediately repair potholes ahead of the upcoming festivals to ease transportation. He also instructed them to expedite pending decisions, deploy additional manpower and equipment, and ensure that the road expansion is completed within the current fiscal year.

The project aims to expand the 15.8-kilometre Suryabinayak–Dhulikhel road into six lanes. Progress has reached 39 percent on the 8.3 km stretch from Suryabinayak to Sanga, and 51 percent on the 7.5 km section from Sanga to Dhulikhel.

Overall, the project has achieved 45 percent physical progress, with 80 percent of retaining wall and drainage work completed, and about one kilometre of the road already blacktopped.

However, land boundary disputes, delays in removing houses and sheds, and budget shortages have hampered construction. Minister Ghising assured that he would take necessary steps to prevent further financial constraints.
