Finance Minister Khanal holds talks with ADB, IMF and US Ambassador


Kathmandu: Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal on Monday held separate discussions with representatives of three international institutions.

He met Arnaud Cauchois, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB); Jahan Sarwat, Head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission to Nepal; and Dean R. Thompson, US Ambassador to Nepal.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the meetings focused on the impact of Nepal’s political developments on the economy, continuity of development and economic reform programs, and the government’s responsibility to successfully conduct the upcoming House of Representatives election.

In the meeting with the ADB, Minister Khanal appreciated the Bank’s role in energy, infrastructure, drinking water, and other development sectors, and expressed commitment to continue ongoing projects.

During a virtual meeting with IMF’s Jahan Sarwat, discussions were held on the continuity and accelerated implementation of economic reform programmes. They also talked about presenting the sixth review report of IMF’s Extended Credit Facility to the Board soon.

In his meeting with US Ambassador Dean Thompson, topics included Nepal’s recent developments, American assistance, timely implementation of Millennioum Challenge Corporation (MCC) projects, and plans to boost private sector confidence.

Ambassador Thompson expressed condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and assured that the US government stands with Nepal. Minister Khanal, for his part, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure projects are implemented successfully without delays.
