Buddha Air to resume direct flights to Kolkata after 6-year gap

Kathmandu: Buddha Air has announced that it will resume direct flights from Kathmandu to Kolkata, India, starting this Kartik (mid-November).

The carrier had initially launched the route six years ago but discontinued operations in less than six months.

According to the airline, shortcomings experienced in the past have now been addressed, and flights will restart with three weekly services. The Kathmandu–Kolkata route will operate every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Ticket bookings have already opened following the release of the new schedule.

The flight duration will be approximately one and a half hours, operated by Buddha Air’s ATR-72 aircraft, which has a seating capacity of 72 passengers. The airline had previously used the same aircraft type when it first attempted the route.

Buddha Air had started flights to Kolkata in May 2019 but discontinued them after limited demand failed to meet expectations. At that time, the service was aimed primarily at international tourists, but the number of arrivals did not increase as anticipated.

The airline has set the minimum fare for the Kathmandu–Kolkata route at Rs 14,500, with the maximum fare reaching Rs 31,200, according to travel agency listings. In addition to the upcoming Kolkata flights, Buddha Air currently operates regular flights to Varanasi, India.
