Hyatt Regency Kathmandu closes indefinitely after damage during Gen-Z movement

Kathmandu: The five-star Taragaon Regency Hotel (Hyatt Regency Kathmandu), which had been unable to resume operations after vandalism during the Gen-Z movement, has now been closed indefinitely.

The hotel, which was vandalized on September 9, had not been able to reopen since the incident.

According to Hyatt Regency Kathmandu’s Managing Director, Suresh Lal Shrestha, the hotel’s lobby and 70 rooms were completely damaged, and due to the time required for necessary repairs, the hotel has been closed for now.

He said, “First, we need to assess the damage to the 70 rooms. After that evaluation, we will know the extent of the damage and how long it will take to resume operations.”

According to him, more than 200 full-time workers have lost their jobs due to the hotel’s closure. He added that discussions are ongoing with the workers to provide services and benefits according to the law, and the matter of paying salaries during the closure period will also be settled in accordance with legal provisions.

Hyatt Regency Kathmandu has 280 rooms in total. The closure of this international chain hotel is expected to have a negative impact on the arrival of foreign tourists.
