Nepal sees record petroleum imports of over Rs 6.7 billion in 3 months


Kathmandu: In the last three months, Nepal has imported the highest volume of petroleum products to date. According to the Department of Customs, petroleum and gas imports amounted to nearly Rs 6.7 billion.

Up to the month of Ashwin (mid-October), the Customs Department reported imports of petrol worth Rs 1.6787 billion, diesel worth Rs 2.06945 billion, and LPG worth Rs 1.39819 billion. Petroleum product imports totaled Rs 6.7 billion, making it the largest import sector, followed by imports of animal and vegetable oils.

Imports of electrical goods and parts exceeded Rs 3.4 billion, with overall imports crossing Rs 4 billion. Additionally, iron and steel products imports amounted to about Rs 3.4 billion.

During this period, imports of smartphones were valued at Rs 1.36275 billion.
