Kathmandu: In the first three months of the current fiscal year 2025/26 (mid-July to mid-October 2025), a massive Rs 553.31 billion in remittances flowed into Nepal, according to data released by Nepal Rastra Bank.
This represents a sharp increase of 35.4 percent compared to the same period last year. In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, remittance inflow had grown by only 11.9 percent.
Asoj (September-October) alone recorded an all-time monthly high of Rs 201.22 billion, the highest amount Nepal has ever received in a single month.
For comparison, remittance in Asoj of the previous year stood at Rs 144.17 billion.
The combined inflow for Shrawan–Bhadra (mid-July to mid-September) was Rs 352 billion.
In US dollar terms, remittance inflow during these three months surged by 29.2 percent to US$ 3.94 billion, compared to a 10.6 percent increase in the same period last year.
Net secondary income (net transfers) during the review period reached Rs 610.61 billion, up from Rs 443.76 billion in the previous year.
Meanwhile, the number of Nepalis taking labour permits for foreign employment also rose: 123,459 received final labour approval (institutional and individual–new) and 77,257 renewed their labour permits.
These figures are higher than the previous year’s 110,654 new approvals and 59,939 renewals.
