Kathmandu: In a landmark generational transition, Akshay Golyan, 37, has been appointed Chairman of the Golyan Group, one of Nepal’s most respected and longest-standing business conglomerates. The announcement was made on Friday during the group’s annual celebrations, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the six-decade-old family enterprise.
Akshay, who has served as Managing Director for the past nine years, now holds the combined roles of Chairman and Managing Director, exercising full executive authority. The move is seen as a clear signal of the group’s ambition to blend youthful energy with its deep-rooted legacy while accelerating growth and global competitiveness.
Group Vice Chairman Basudev Golyan formally handed over the chairmanship to Akshay, emphasizing family unity and strategic continuity. Corporate Affairs and Communications Head Jyoti Gaire stated, “Concentrating leadership and executive powers in Akshay will make the Golyan Group’s expansion and international presence even stronger and more dynamic.”
A graduate with a master’s degree in business studies from Spain’s prestigious ESADE University (ranked among the global top 10), Akshay has already been steering several of the group’s key companies. His vision is unambiguous: to transform Golyan Group into a globally competitive powerhouse that transcends Nepal’s borders.
“This is not just a change of guard; it is the responsibility of taking a proud legacy into the modern era,” the new Chairman said after assuming office. “We are committed to establishing Golyan Group as an international-standard institution. Our focus will now sharpen on innovation, sustainable development, and strong corporate governance.”
The Golyan Group employs nearly 10,000 people and operates across various sectors, including manufacturing, renewable energy, agriculture, hospitality, and exports. With presence in over 60 global markets and annual turnover exceeding US$ 400 million (over Rs 56 billion), it remains a cornerstone of Nepal’s private sector and a major contributor to the country’s economic self-reliance.
In a gesture of respect and continuity, the board has conferred the title of “Chairman Emeritus” and chief patron on founder Pavan Golyan. Akshay paid tribute to the founder, saying, “Having Pavan Golyan sir continue as Chairman Emeritus ensures the unbroken flow of his strategic wisdom and experience. It will further strengthen our expansion in energy, agriculture, manufacturing, and exports while we continue driving innovation and contributing to Nepal’s prosperity.”
