Box office update: ‘Aa Bata Aama’ crosses Rs 112 million as new releases struggle

Kathmandu: Nepal’s Film Development Board has released the latest box office figures for Nepali films currently in theaters. The data, published Monday through the board’s Cinema@boxoffice system, covers earnings up to February 21 and offers a snapshot of a domestic film market where only one title has delivered a strong commercial performance in recent weeks.

Leading the charts is Aa Bata Aama, which has grossed Rs 112.4 million since its release on January 29. The film, which blends entertainment with themes of social change and national transformation, has sold 423,111 tickets. Directed by Chandra Pant, the movie stars Paul Shah, Bipana Thapa, Pradeep Rawat, and Usha Upreti among others. Its strong ticket sales have made it the clear standout in the current theatrical lineup.

In contrast, Kumari, released on February 5, has earned Rs 6.32 million, selling just 19,379 tickets. Directed by Dinesh Raut, the Gen Z-themed romantic drama failed to meet expectations, with weak audience reviews appearing to weigh heavily on its commercial performance.

Similarly, Ramita ko Priti, also released on February 5, has generated Rs 2.55 million from 7,803 ticket sales. Directed by Sudipta Adhikari and starring Aana Sharma and Dhiraj Magar, the film received relatively positive audience feedback but has struggled to convert that goodwill into box office momentum.

Three other films released on February 13, Shree Bukuro, Shivansh: Chapter 1, and Bigul, have already been pulled from theaters after underperforming. Shree Bukuro, directed by Sudip Bhupal Singh, earned just Rs 272,930 in its first week, selling 805 tickets. Shivansh: Chapter 1, directed by Santosh Kumar Atreya, brought in Rs 261,750 from 787 tickets. Meanwhile, Bigul, directed by Ramesh Koirala, performed slightly better but still modestly, grossing Rs 897,410 from 2,609 ticket sales.
