Kathmandu: Nepal Red Cross Society has underscored the initiatives to empower and safeguard women. It made a mid-term review of its activities and advocated for further protecting the women’s rights via lobby and reform.
Under Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Anju Dhungana, shared government’s policies and programmes committed to women’s safety and empowerment.
Similarly, representatives from International Red Cross Committee, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Society, British Red Cross, American Red Cross, Swiss Red Cross and Danish Red Cross and Nepal Red Cross spoke on the challenges facing the safeguarding of women- awareness, collection of complaints, timely address and essential support.
Programme coordinator of ‘Safeguarding’ project at Nepal Red Cross, Suvechha Manandar, informed that the review dwelt on how women’s rights could be protected and promoted through safeguarding. Exchange of significant information was stressed by the review meeting.
Director at Safeguarding and Gender and Inclusion Department of Nepal Red Cross, Divya Raj Paudel, however, claimed the safeguarding activities launched in the past had resulted in positive notes.
The one-door crisis management centre of Nepal government was vital in facilitating the activities initiated to curb all sorts of misbehaviour to persons and agencies involved in support works. The discriminatory work culture was also discouraged among the staffs and volunteers.
Nepal Red Cross has adopted a policy of zero tolerance to sexual exploitation, harassment and oppression.
