Kathmandu: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said the Election Commission Nepal plans to publish the final results of both the direct and proportional representation votes in Nepal’s parliamentary election by March 9 (Falgun 25).
Speaking to journalists after casting his vote at a polling center located at the Ward Office of Kathmandu Metropolitan City–29 in Kathmandu on Thursday morning, Bhandari said the commission has put in place effective arrangements to ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair, and fear-free environment. He also urged all eligible voters to participate enthusiastically in the voting process.
According to him, preparations are already in place to accelerate the vote counting immediately after polling concludes. “Based on the number of ballots cast, we will form the necessary counting teams and aim to publish the results as quickly as possible,” Bhandari said, adding that the commission’s target is to announce outcomes for all 165 first-past-the-post seats and 110 proportional representation seats by the March 9 deadline.
Voting is currently underway across the country to elect members of the House of Representatives of Nepal. A total of 165 seats are being contested under the first-past-the-post system, while 110 seats will be allocated through the proportional representation system. The commission reported that polling began early in the morning at voting centers nationwide and that voter turnout has been encouraging so far. It also stated that adequate manpower and technology will be mobilized to ensure the vote counting process is efficient and timely.
