Prachanda set for victory as lead becomes unassailable in parliamentary election

Kathmandu: Pushpa Kamal Dahal, widely known as “Prachanda,” chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), is on the verge of winning his seat in Nepal’s House of Representatives election as the ongoing vote count shows his lead has become mathematically impossible to overturn.

According to the latest tally, Prachanda has secured 8,747 votes, while his closest rival, Lilamani Gautam, has received 3,017 votes. The margin between them stands at 5,460 votes.

In the constituency, a total of 19,188 votes were cast, of which 15,823 have already been counted. With only 3,365 votes remaining to be tallied, Prachanda’s lead exceeds the number of votes left to be counted.

Even if all the remaining votes were to go to the runner-up candidate, it would still not be enough to close the gap, effectively guaranteeing Prachanda’s victory. The final stages of vote counting are still underway, and an official declaration of the result is yet to be made.
