Balen Shah emerges victorious in Jhapa-5 as vote gap over KP Oli becomes unassailable


Kathmandu: Vote counting is still underway in Jhapa constituency 5, but Balen Shah of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has already been declared the winner after building an insurmountable lead over K. P. Sharma Oli of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist).

As of 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, a total of 88,441 votes had been counted out of 106,372 ballots cast in the constituency. According to the latest tally, Shah has secured 55,934 votes, while Oli has received 15,409 votes, giving Shah a commanding lead of 40,525 votes.

Other candidates trail far behind. Nepali Congress candidate Mandhara Chimariya has received 1,531 votes, Ranjit Tamang of the Communist Party of Nepal has secured 1,264 votes, and Samir Tamang of the Shram Sanskriti Party has garnered 8,519 votes.

With only 17,931 votes left to be counted, Shah’s lead has already exceeded the number of remaining ballots, mathematically confirming his victory even before the final count is completed.
