Chaudhary Group partners with Marriott to bring Ritz-Carlton to Kathmandu in US$ 100 million project

Kathmandu: Nepal’s leading conglomerate Chaudhary Group has announced the launch of the ultra-luxury The Ritz-Carlton in Kathmandu, in partnership with Marriott International. The project marks one of the largest investments ever made in Nepal’s hospitality sector.

The Ritz-Carlton, established in 1983 and currently operating more than 108 hotels and resorts across 30 countries, is set to enter Nepal through CG Hospitality Global, the hospitality arm of Chaudhary Group. The project is being developed in collaboration with investors including Rabindra Shrestha (I.J. Group), Saurav Sharma (Sharma & Company), Amrit Shakya, and Sanchit Shrestha.

The groundbreaking ceremony for The Ritz-Carlton Kathmandu was held on Friday, March 27, 2026, in the tourist hub of Thamel, near Durbar Marg. The development will feature a 150-room ultra-luxury hotel, branded residences, a commercial complex, and a casino.

Spanning approximately nine ropanis of land, the project is estimated to cost around $100 million and is targeted for completion by mid-2029. Once operational, room rates are expected to exceed $1,000 per night, positioning Nepal as a high-end global tourism destination.

According to Rahul Chaudhary, Managing Director and CEO of CG Hospitality Global, the project underscores the group’s commitment to elevating Nepal’s tourism sector to international standards. He described the initiative as not only a major investment but also a reflection of a new generation of entrepreneurs aiming to establish world-class tourism infrastructure in Nepal.

The investment is also seen as a vote of confidence in the new government led by Balen Shah, with expectations that it will contribute to job creation, attract foreign investment, and support broader economic growth.

CG Hospitality Global has been expanding its global footprint through partnerships with major international hotel brands. Its portfolio currently includes over 230 hotels and resorts across 130 destinations in 12 countries, with more than 15,000 rooms.

As Nepal’s largest business conglomerate, Chaudhary Group remains a major contributor to the national economy, accounting for around 2 percent of the government’s annual revenue. In the fiscal year 2024/25 alone, the group contributed NPR 25.59 billion in taxes, with total contributions reaching over Rs 92 billion in the past five years.
