AI spurs innovation and development: Dr Dahal

Kathmandu: As artificial intelligence (AI) is disrupting almost every sector, experts working and researching in this field have viewed AI began forwarding a global transformation.

Dr Parashuram Dahal, who is involved in research of information technology and AI, views AI spurs development and innovation. It has made human life more convenient in the fields of health, education, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, among others, he informed.

Dr Dahal was making such an observation in a recent episode of RSS Dialogue launched by RSS.”AI is such a computer system that thinks, learns and makes decisions like humans,” he said, adding that automation, data analysis and decision-making process would be further progressive in the days ahead.

He, however, said AI can cut traditional jobs but creates new skills and opportunities with innovative technologies. “AI is being very useful- for production, modernization of agriculture, reform in the health sector, disaster management and education.”

According to him, data is the basic thing to train and advance AI. But the lack of quality, credible and systematic data hinders the use of AI. Dahal pointed out the urgency of policy, technology and structural development for data collection, safe store and effective use of data.

Long-term policy and strategy, investment growth, research and development are essential to forward AI drive, Dr Dahal viewed, while data privacy, misinformation and integrity also warrant equal attention.

Dr Dahal, who has been staying abroad and involved in research, also provides occasional training and mentoring to Nepali students and academia.
