Kathmandu: Nepal Airlines Corporation has reported a nearly 12 percent increase in revenue over the first eight months of the current fiscal year, driven by a sharp rise in passenger traffic and improved flight operations.
According to the airline, it served 434,614 passengers on domestic and international routes between Shrawan and Falgun of FY 2082/83, generating revenue of Rs 11.30 billion. This figure reflects earnings solely from ticket sales and does not include income from ground handling services.
In the same period last fiscal year, the airline carried 353,601 passengers and earned Rs 10.10 billion. With passenger numbers up by 23 percent—an increase of over 81,000 travelers—revenue rose by around Rs 1.2 billion, indicating a notable performance improvement.
The airline attributes last year’s weaker performance to multiple aircraft being grounded, scheduled C-check maintenance, and prolonged repair times. In contrast, all aircraft have remained operational this year, and no major maintenance cycles have disrupted operations, contributing to stronger results.
However, the airline warned that tensions in West Asia since mid-Falgun have begun to affect flights to Gulf destinations, which could impact revenue in the coming months compared to last year.
Among destinations, the Delhi route recorded the highest passenger volume, with 95,860 यात्रु transported during the review period. In terms of revenue, however, the Japan sector led the chart, generating Rs 3.51 billion from around 47,000 passengers.
Dubai emerged as the second-highest revenue-generating route, bringing in Rs 1.69 billion from 69,000 passengers. On the lower end, the Guangzhou route in China generated the least revenue—Rs 144 million—from about 6,700 passengers.
Meanwhile, flights to Dammam in Saudi Arabia generated Rs 430 million from around 15,000 passengers, showing relatively strong yield despite lower traffic.
Domestic operations remained minimal, with only about 16,000 passengers served over eight months, contributing just Rs 71.3 million in revenue, the data shows.
