Pond conservation to promote tourism in Hatuwagadhi

Bhojpur: Hatuwagadhi rural municipality-1 of Bhojpur district has advanced conservation of a pond in a bid to promote tourism at the local level. It has stressed conservation of the Thalthale pond with sustainable management of natural resources.

The local level forwarded this initiative, aiming at propping up the rural economy.

The pond, left in utter neglect, was revived with the partnership of the ward office and rural municipality. Structures of the pond were rebuilt and vegetation cleared to restore the water source. It is expected to protect the water source at a time when the water springs are drying up, causing a gradual threat to humans and livestock.

Ward chairman Kumar Bista informed that the pond area was tidied up, soil erosion controlled, and structures rebuilt for conservation of the water source. It will further control the drying up of the area. “The pond is directly linked to the everyday life of the locals- sanitation and irrigation.

It took some Rs 750 thousand for the conservation bid. “Conservation of water sources is our priority,” Bista shared, adding that it was also expected to promote tourism and generate employment in the vicinity.

The location of the water body bears further importance also because it is near the Jorahal-Sankhachuli trekking route in the district. The trekking route has attracted tourists in recent times. So, the pond near the trekking route would also see increasing footfall.

Importantly, it is a nice place for relishing the natural sights from the pond area. A blend of peaceful atmosphere and growing greenery around it are further attraction.

A local Bachidhan Rai said Thalthale is likely to become a good hangout after the restoration of the pond. People love snapping photos from this place. Scenic beauty can be viewed from here, he added.
