Government introduces 2-day weekend to ease fuel demand

Kathmandu: The government has decided to implement a two-day public holiday each week, granting Saturdays and Sundays off for schools and government offices. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Sunday.

According to government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel, the new schedule will come into effect from April 5 to ease pressure on petroleum supplies. By reducing the number of working days, authorities expect to lower fuel consumption and improve overall supply management.

The office time will be from 9 am to 5 pm in summer and 9 am to 4 pm in winter.

In addition to the revised weekend policy, the government has also decided to promote the transition of vehicles running on petrol and diesel toward electric alternatives. This move is part of a broader effort to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and encourage cleaner, more sustainable transportation across the country.
