Dudhkoshi-5 hydel project of 110 megawatts to be developed

Kathmandu: The Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project-5, with a capacity of 110 megawatts, is to be built in the Dudhkoshi River in Solukhumbu district.

As proposed by the developer, the project would be located at wards no. 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 in Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality.

The Electricity Development Department has already approved the developer, Independent Power Company Nepal, to make this a semi-reservoir-based project.

The environmental impact assessment report of the project for the run-of-the-river project was already completed, but the supplementary report on environmental impact assessment for the semi-reservoir-based project is also being prepared, it is said.

For the project advancement, more than 2,450 trees from a community forest should be cleared.

Once completed, the power generated from the project would be connected to the New Khimti Substation at Devitar, Dolakha.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be more than Rs 19 billion and would be completed in five years, the developer said.
