Kathmandu: The government has announced that minimum support prices for agricultural products will now be determined and implemented within a fixed timeframe to ensure better protection for farmers.
Presenting the government’s policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27, President Ram Chandra Paudel said farmers would also receive payments for support-price purchases directly through the banking system.
The government said the move is aimed at improving market certainty for farmers, ensuring timely price intervention and strengthening transparency in agricultural payments.
Under the new policy, the state will announce minimum support prices on schedule and implement them effectively, while payments owed to farmers under the support-price mechanism will be transferred through banks rather than cash transactions.
