Kathmandu: During the presentation of the government’s policy and programs for the 2026/27 fiscal year, President Ram Chandra Paudel announced a commitment to the swift completion of several critical national infrastructure projects.
The government intends to fast-track the remaining work on the Hulaki and Pushpalal highways, as well as the Kathmandu-Terai Fast Track and various essential link roads, to significantly enhance the country’s connectivity and logistical efficiency.
Beyond traditional road construction, the government is shifting its focus toward modernizing urban mobility through the implementation of electric mass transit systems and the development of all-weather roads that remain operational year-round.
A comprehensive new policy governing public transportation and road management will be introduced, alongside a much stricter monitoring framework designed to hold contractors accountable and ensure that infrastructure projects are delivered within their stipulated timeframes.
In a pioneering move toward public safety, the President also declared that the state will implement AI-based digital technologies to monitor traffic and mitigate road accidents. By integrating artificial intelligence into the national transport system, the government aims to create a safer and more technologically advanced environment for commuters, marking a new chapter in Nepal’s approach to infrastructure management and public security.
