Kathmandu: The government is preparing to formally introduce internship opportunities in public offices through the upcoming national budget for the fiscal year 2026/27.
Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle is expected to announce the policy in his budget speech, drawing inspiration from internship practices already adopted by the private sector as well as institutions such as Nepal Rastra Bank.
According to sources, the government believes hiring interns for smaller administrative and support tasks could be a more cost-effective alternative to appointing permanent staff for every minor role within public offices.
Officials also expect the move to improve service delivery and bring greater efficiency to government operations while simultaneously creating learning and work opportunities for students and young professionals.
