Kathmandu: The government has reduced customs duties on 273 categories of industrial raw materials as part of its effort to strengthen domestic manufacturing and improve industrial competitiveness.
Presenting the national budget for fiscal year 2026/27 in a joint session of the federal parliament, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle said the revised tariff structure ensures that customs duties on raw materials remain at least one tier lower than those imposed on finished goods.
The policy is aimed at encouraging local production by making imported raw materials cheaper for industries while maintaining higher tariffs on ready-made products entering the domestic market. Officials believe the measure will help reduce production costs, support industrial expansion, and promote import substitution in Nepal’s manufacturing sector.
