Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has announced a landmark policy allowing apartment developers to sell or lease units to foreign entities and individuals under specific regulatory conditions.
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Waglé unveiled this initiative while presenting the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84 during a joint session of the Federal Parliament. This move is intended to modernize the domestic real estate market and provide stable residential options for the growing international community active in Nepal’s economy.
Under the new provision, foreign investors, international organizations, and branches of multinational companies will be permitted to acquire apartment units for residential use.
These units can be leased on a long-term basis within designated residential buildings or in specific locations identified by the government.
To maintain a balance within the domestic market, the government has capped these foreign acquisitions at 25 percent of the total units available in any single apartment project. By opening up the housing sector to global stakeholders, the administration aims to attract more foreign investment and enhance the country’s appeal as a destination for international business and diplomacy.
