Government to expand railway network, new line connecting Bardibas to fast track hub in Nijgadh announced


Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has announced plans to construct a new railway segment linking Bardibas to Nijgadh, specifically reaching the starting point of the Kathmandu-Terai/Madhesh Fast Track. This strategic expansion is intended to integrate the nation’s rail network with major road corridors, facilitating more efficient transit between the Terai region and the capital.

While presenting the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84 before a joint session of the Federal Parliament, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Waglé also pledged to finalize several ongoing railway projects. The Minister committed to the timely completion of the Budhanagar-Biratnagar, Janakpur-Jayanagar, and the existing Bardibas rail lines, reinforcing the government’s priority on enhancing nationwide connectivity through modernized rail infrastructure.
