Katjmandu: The Government of Nepal has announced a strategic plan to revitalize seven underperforming or dormant public enterprises, including the Gorakhkali Rubber Industry, by transitioning them to a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This initiative aims to leverage private sector expertise and capital to bring these state-owned assets back into operation.
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Waglé shared this roadmap while presenting the federal budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 during a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday.
To ensure a transparent and effective transition, the government will conduct a comprehensive Due Diligence Audit (DDA) for each of the selected institutions. These audits will provide a clear picture of the financial and operational health of the enterprises, serving as a critical foundation for managing future investments and selecting appropriate private partners. Through this reform, the administration intends to reduce the fiscal drain on the national treasury while boosting domestic production and industrial efficiency.
