Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has announced a strategic plan to transform the historic city of Janakpur into a major international wedding destination.
This initiative directly fulfills a campaign commitment previously made by Prime Minister Balen Shah to promote the city’s rich cultural and religious heritage on a global scale. By branding Janakpur as a hub for matrimonial ceremonies, the administration aims to capitalize on the city’s unique identity as the birthplace of Goddess Sita, thereby boosting religious tourism and local economic growth.
Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Waglé unveiled this plan while presenting the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84 before a joint session of the Federal Parliament.
To support this vision, the government has committed to significant infrastructure improvements in the region, including the comprehensive upgrading of the Ram Janaki Path and the Ram Janaki Road.
These logistical enhancements are designed to provide better accessibility and a more seamless experience for domestic and international visitors traveling to the historic site for weddings and pilgrimages.
