Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal is set to begin the transformation of the Butwal-Pokhara section of the Siddhartha Highway into a dedicated fast track.
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle made this announcement while presenting the national budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 before a joint session of the Federal Parliament today. He further informed the house that the construction of the Siddhababa tunnel is on track to be completed within the upcoming fiscal year.
Regarding the Prithvi Highway, the budget outlines a commitment to expedite the ongoing four-lane expansion of the road connecting Anbu Khaireni in Tanahun to Pokhara. Finance Minister Wagle also confirmed that the government will initiate the construction of the Mugling-Anbu Khaireni section, further improving the primary transit route between the capital and the western regions of the country.
The government has also prioritized the Nagdhunga-Mugling corridor, with plans to upgrade 40 kilometres of the existing road to enhance safety and flow. In a significant milestone for the nation’s infrastructure, the Nagdhunga tunnel is scheduled to become fully operational starting this August. To ensure the steady progress of these vital road and tunnel projects, the Minister has announced a total allocation of 6.55 billion rupees for the upcoming year.
